Our Training Package

The Bitterne Park Teaching School Alliance, together with the University of Southampton, has developed a bespoke training package to maximise the strengths of the schools across our alliance.

Our secondary core training involves:

  • a half term induction at the start of the programme
  • a progressive training programme delivered each Friday throughout the year
  • a half term second school placement in a contrasting school
  • a primary, sixth form and SEN school experience

Our primary core training involves:

  • a 2-3 week induction at your base school at the start of the programme
  • your main practice in your base school commencing in November, and then from Easter to the end of the course
  • a 6 week second school placement in a contrasting school during the Spring term
  • a progressive training programme delivered in three blocks over the year

Throughout the programme you will be supported by:

  • highly skilled and trained mentors
  • a subject tutor
  • a professional mentor (a member of your school’s senior leadership team who oversees the programme in your school)
