Bitterne Park

About Bitterne Park

Bitterne Park, an 11–19 mixed comprehensive community school, is set in a splendid site of eighteen acres overlooking the River Itchen and Riverside Park.  The School has its own seven and a half acre field for recreational use and nearby are Bitterne Leisure Centre and Woodmill Outdoor Education Centre, both extensively used by our students.

Our current on-site facilities include specialist accommodation for Technology, Art and Ceramics, Photography and a Hair Salon. There is one gymnasium for Physical Education and one converted into two Dance Studios. We have a state of the art Fitness Suite with staff membership. The Sports Hall is also used by the community in the evenings.  There is a separate Music/Drama building and a brand new theatre.  Ten laboratories enable the School to offer a full programme in Science to every student.  We have relocated and upgraded our “library” and learning resources into a Destinations Lounge sponsored by Southampton Airport, our main business sponsor.  Our school day timings are 8.30am to 2.55pm but the site is often open until 10.00pm which encourages many after school clubs and events for students in the evening.  Adult Education evening classes are run on our site by Eastleigh College and the Gantry Youth theatre are based at Bitterne Park School.  We are fully licensed for evening functions and bookings.

Our brand new state-of-the-art Sixth Form building opened in January 2012 to accommodate our new Sixth Form offering an exciting, modern learning environment.  Students have access to a vast variety of cutting edge facilities and its three levels are able to accommodate our projected 250+ post-16 students.  Our third set of A level results in 2015 were a great success securing University entry for all who applied.

In addition, the School benefits from twelve Information Technology suites as well as IT clusters in most departments.  The school continues to upgrade our Information Technology facilities and a continuing programme of further improvement and extension is planned.  There is easy access to inter-active whiteboard technology throughout the school. However! Our Priority School Building is underway with our new school due to open in Autumn 2017. This wonderful building will have many exciting features and secures the future expansion of Bitterne Park School.
