Welcome to PERforming Arts

As part of the schools specialist schools status in performing arts the school provides a Btec course in performing arts – this is made up of aspects of music, drama and dance to find out more about each area then please click the links opposite.

Bitterne Park School uses the Performing Arts specialism to enrich the skills and lives of all students.

The teaching and learning that takes place through the Performing Arts develops self-esteem, self-confidence, self-worth and develops skills that are transferable across the rest of the curriculum.

The value of Dance, Drama and Music is seen throughout key stage 3 and key stage 4 in a wide variety of ways. At key stage 3, students have a full selection of all three subjects. During year 9, they have the chance to personalise their learning by specialising further in the Arts subjects.

At key stage 4, there is an extensive breath of courses to allow all students to work to their strengths. The traditional GCSE’s in Dance, Drama and Music are enriched by vocational courses. These allow students who are more suited to coursework to succeed and not have to complete exam elements. The BTec courses can be studied in an individual discipline, Dance, Drama and Music, and students who pass will have a qualification equivalent to 2 GCSE’s.

If students choose a double BTec (worth 2 options) they will study a combination of two disciplines and achieve a qualification equivalent to 4 GCSE’s.

The breadth of these courses available to all students allows for continued high success rates in the Performing Arts.
