Horticultural Studies

Bitterne Parks garden

A new option based on the successful environmental studies programme from Year 9.

Pupils will follow a course developing horticultural skills based at school.

Pupils will design, prepare and grow a variety of vegetables and flowers at an allotment on the Witts Hill site. The pupils will also have the opportunity to develop the school site in terms of developing its environment impact for both pupils and local residents.

As well as this, pupils will visit nurseries and garden centres, and aim to produce a themed garden of their own.

Pupils will be following the AQA Unit Award Scheme, receiving a range of certificates for different modules during the course.

Clearly, much of this course will be outside – wind, snow, rain or sun!!
