Notification of Potential Industrial Action on Wednesday March 26 2014
As you will be aware from the recent media coverage, NUT and potentially NASUWT unions are currently considering taking industrial action on Wednesday 26 March 2014. This is in relation to their concerns over the proposed changes to their terms and conditions including pensions by the Government.
This means that industrial action on 26 March remains a possibility. The action (a one day strike) is not against the school itself but is part of national industrial action organised by the unions with regards to proposed changes to their members’ terms and conditions.
There is no requirement for unions to inform us of which members of staff will take action, as there is no obligation on members of unions to obey a strike call. However, in the interest of your son or daughter’s safety and welfare, I requested that teaching colleagues advise me whether they intend to take action. If we have a high number of staff taking action it could possibly lead to either partial or full closure of the school. Our main concern is the safety of our students.
This letter is to give you an early warning that the governors and I will need to consider in due course the action we will have to take.
Given that the unions are not required to confirm that they will be taking industrial action until the 19 March, the notification to you may be very late.
We will continue to update you with news via the school’s website and by letter.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and continued support.
