The students at Bitterne Park School are at the forefront of using Information Technology (ICT) to support their learning.

Following on from the recent Ofsted Inspection (Dec 07) which was found the use of ICT  across the curriculum to be outstanding, Becta (the government agency leading the national drive to ensure the effective and innovative use of technology throughout
learning) awarded the school the prestigious ICT mark at the recent BETT show in London.

The award came after a rigorous external assessment which found that the school was at the forefront of ICT use within schools.  At present Bitterne Park School is the only secondary school within Southampton to achieve the award and one of only 5 within Hampshire.

The award recognises the school's success in developing the strategic use of ICT to support the learning of its students and ensuring its mission to prepare the students for the skills needed in a new global economy.

Over the past few years Bitterne Park has gone from strength to strength, achieving most recently 74% 5 A* to C, being awarded applied learning status and receiving an invitation from the DCFS to explore the addition of a sixth form which will provide much need diversity of choice for learners in Southampton.  However not only did Bitterne Park receive the prestigious ICT mark but they were also shortlisted for Becta's National ICT
Excellence Awards in the Leadership and Management category.

Bitterne Park has been a leading school within Southampton for some time now and at present leads on several major national DCFS strategies and innovations, with the Head-teacher taking on the role as a Specialist Schools Trust Lead Practitioner, supporting the development of many other schools throughout the South East region.

Head-teacher Susan Trigger commented "The school is delighted with to be awarded the ICT mark as it not only recognises the hard work and effort that we have put into developing our use of ICT to best support our students, but it also validates the schools investment into the future of our nations children by ensuring that they have the skill sets needed in an rapidly changing world and a developing global knowledge economy."
