What a fantastic year we had in Year 7. It only seems like yesterday that I was welcoming you all at Induction Day, and here we are, one year on, and no longer the ‘little ones’ in the school.

Our biggest challenge as we make our way through our school life, is not to rest on our laurels, but to always find ways to make ourselves better. We must not dwell on the fact that we had a fantastic year in Year 7, but instead find ways to make Year 8 even better.

Why is this year group so brilliant?

·         Behaviour across the year group was fantastic last year – We need to ensure that this does not slip. Good behaviour will always be rewarded at Bitterne Park. Will you make it into the ‘Hot 100’?
·         Attendance was fantastic – We had the best attendance in the whole school, and this is something I want to be saying at the end of Year 8. To be successful at school, we need to be at school. Good attendance will always be rewarded with weekly and termly prizes.
·         Performing Arts – We are a fantastically talented year group. Year 7’s ‘Bitterne’s Got Talent’ was definitely one of the a highlights of Year 7, as was ‘Stars in Their Eyes’. Two of our year group have the lead roles in the school musical, ‘Hairspray’ and many more are in the chorus. How are we going to top that?
·         Sports – We are a multi talented sporting year group, from football to cricket, netball to rounders. Students have competed for Southampton at county level.
·         Inter-tutor Challenge – What a brilliant success this has been. Each week tutor groups competed against each other in a variety of activities to see who would be crowned the Champion Tutor Group. Well done to 7B2.
·         Trips and Rewards – We’ve taken trips to the Mayflower theatre to see the panto and the west end production of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. We spent a weekend at Osmington Bay taking part in all sorts of outdoor activities, as well as a day at Paulton’s Park enjoying the sunshine.
·         And much, much more…

I can’t wait to find out how we’re going to make Year 8 bigger and better than last year.
