Welcome to Media Studies

The BTEC qualifications are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. They have developed to provide their knowledge,understanding and skills necessary to prepare learners for employment and/or to provide career development opportunities for those already in work.

Structure of the qualification

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Media consists of one core unit plus two specialist units that provide for a combined total of 180 guided learning hours.

Current year 10 and 11 pupils are studying 3 units: Research for Media Production, Audio Production and Advertising Production.

From Septemer 2010, Year 10 students will undertake the Edexcel Level 2 Extended Certificate in Creative Media Production. This qualification consists of two mandatory units. The mandatory units are Research for Creative Media and Communication Techniques for Creative Production. Te optional units are Video Production and Advertising Production.

As part of the Video Production unit Year 10 students work with Hampshire Constabulary to priduce a short film highlighting the problems with Anti-Social behaviour, knife crime and or under age drinking. All films are judged by a panel of independent judges with the winning entries posted onto the Hampshire Constabulary website.
