Bitterne Park School
Geography Department
Introduction
Geography at Bitterne Park is exciting, challenging and fun. It is the subject that crosses all boarders between the arts and the sciences, providing timeless skills and opportunities later in life. Our planet is there to be questioned, understood and explored and we endeavour to create an environment where all styles of learner are keen to know more.

G&T
From subtle extension tasks in lessons to ‘Challenge Envelopes’ and the ‘The Gifted Geographers Handbook of Stuff to Investigate’ our more able geographers have plenty to broaden their horizons. Identified through a criteria that includes enthusiasm, effort and attainment gifted geographers have plenty to get their teeth stuck into.
Extra Curricular
Run by Mr Syms and Miss Barker ‘Globetrotters’ is a rather large club that runs once a month. Pupils of all ages and abilities are encouraged to express their geographical ideas using a range of media including; modelling of endangered species to raise pubic awareness; researching and presenting a unique landform, culture or country; and questioning just about anything and everything that is going on. Expect fun, bring energy!
The ‘Surf Club’ with Mr Syms attracts those who wish to mix an understanding of the sea with a sport to enjoy it! Mixing surf safety with equipment analysis this is a great introduction to the sport. Summer term offers more light for evening surf opportunities with Bournemouth Surf School and the year is nicely rounded off with the two day intensive ‘Surf Trip’ to Croyde Bay, Devon (Y10 and 11).
