BTEC Dance

The course enables the student to access dance from a more vocational viewpoint and is very practical in its delivery. The students are expected to complete a variety of assignments throughout the course which enable them study three dance units in total. All assessments are completed in lessons throughout Years 10 & 11.

Contemporary Dance Use of Technical vocabulary, performance skills within the contemporary dance style and appreciate the skills.
Set studies – set dances taught by your teacher

Performances for dance shows and evenings e.g. ‘Dance Fusion’
Self evaluations (written/ presentations)
Understanding Dance Choreography and appreciation skills

 The course is mainly practically based with some written tasks. There is no written exam on the BTEC course. You will have the opportunity to work with professional dance artists when taking part in practical workshops, seeing live performance and learning about the dance industry in general.
 
Homework will involve research tasks, choreographic tasks, written tasks (short answer questions, self evaluations (description, explanation and evaluation). Also students are required to complete group or solo rehearsals, either at lunchtime or after school.
                                                                                                                    
The courses are very demanding, both physically and mentally.   Full co-operation and commitment are absolutely essential to success in Dance. Fun and fulfilment is the aim.
