This unit is compulsory and requires the students to rehearse and perform choreographed dances. During the unit students will have the chance to experience different styles of dance, for example, Contemporary and African and have the opportunity to take part in several dance performances. Students will see performances by professional dancers, theatre visits and workshops with professional artists and performers. Rigorous rehearsals will be expected in order to carry out successful performances.
Contemporary Dance

Understanding Dance
During this unit students study different styles of dance within a social and historical context. This means they choreograph solo, duet and group pieces based on a specific stimulus as well as learning about the dances’ background. Students will also complete a dance presentation.
Each of these units carries equal weighting and students will be expected to complete a series of assignments throughout each of the units.
Students can achieve a pass, merit or distinction for each assignment they complete, and each mark contributes to their final grade.
