Teaching method:
This course will appeal to anyone who wants to learn more about the construction industry as a potential source of employment, in any of the job areas: Operator, Craft, Technician or Professional.
Students should be excited by the prospect of joining an industry, which will present them with limitless opportunities, including career progression.
The course is theoretical in the form of learning all about the industry and the importance of health, safety and welfare. It is also practical, through practising and then carrying out Carpentry and Joinery tasks to an industrial standard. Additional practical tasks include making models of new developments and designing and making models of sustainable houses.
Students must understand the importance of theoretical as well as practical study of an industry that needs to attract skilled employees. They must approach all tasks with enthusiasm, as they will be expected to undertake guided tasks and assignments so must be self-motivated to learn.
They will meet people from the industry, use the Internet for research and visit places relevant to the topics being taught.
