Learning Support

WELCOME TO Learning Support

The Learning Support Department currently offers support in a variety of ways. The Department prides itself on its flexibility and expertise in both supporting pupils with special educational needs as well as teaching staff in the school. The Department operates an open door policy where pupils, parents and staff are made to feel comfortable when support or expertise is required.

The Integrated Studies Programme ( ISC )

The Integrated Studies Curriculum is an innovative approach to the KS 2 / KS 3 transition. It has been designed specially for pupils working at Levels 2/3 and below and/or those with communication, social and emotional difficulties. The aim is to provide a challenging and enjoyable curriculum in an environment where pupils feel stimulated, valued and safe.

The focus of all of the components in the Integrated Studies programme is firmly on developing pupils’ literacy, numeracy and emotional and social skills, to support progress across the full secondary curriculum.

Integrated Studies is delivered in years 7-11. In year 10, there is a wide range of option choices aimed at further engaging pupils interests whilst delivering appropriate qualifications and accreditation.

Pupils have the opportunity to continue with courses in the 6th form, where the IS philosophy continues . There is a large Learning Support base in the 6th form building with a fully equipped kitchen area.

Bitterne Park School has a number of pupils with severe and complex needs. The Learning Support Department has it’s own Variety Club mini-bus with a wheelchair tailgate. The mini-bus is used on a daily basis for local visits and trips, for groups studying at Hilliers and car mechanics, and trips further afield including France, Belgium and Cornwall.
