After several years of planning before we even started building, the brand new state of the art Bitterne Park School is ready to welcome the first year group through the doors on Friday 8th September.
We will welcome the largest year group in the school’s history when 360 excited Year 7 students, recruited from 26 Primary/Junior Schools across the region. They will be the very first students to enter the new building. A ceremonial occasion to mark this special event will be held with all other year groups being similarly welcomed on Monday and Tuesday next week. We will be fully open and up and running for over 1,600 students on Wednesday 13th September.
There has been a huge amount of dedication and immense hard work from both the Kier construction team and staff of BPS to be ready for this special occasion.
Being able to capture the exceptional ethos and success of “BPS1” and transfer this into the flagship school that “BPS2” will become, has been an honour and unique experience for the BPS team. As the longest serving Headteacher of BPS1 (20 years), I am incredibly proud to take us all into the new building as Executive Head, with Graham Wilson now returning to BPS as our new Headteacher.
As we managed this challenging process over the past few years we have also been able to deliver some of our best ever results, in both GCSE, A Level and Btec courses. Well done to all staff and students for maintaining high quality teaching and learning through this disruption!
“Bitterne Park School 2″ now becomes the home of the Riverside Federation and Bitterne Park Teaching School Alliance. Our priority however will still be delivering an outstanding educational environment for our community of 2,000 people! We now have an outstanding building as our home to thrive in.
